Michael Bay Waxes Poetic on TRANSFORMERS 4

I have absolutely no interest in this franchise. Having been a die-hard Transformers fan as a kid, I felt a little more than burned by the first Bay film.

That being said, some of you might love these movies. Think they’re a real “hoot”. In which case, you’ll enjoy Bay talking about plans for the fourth film:

The L.A. Times’ Hero Complex spoke to Bay a bout what exactly we can expect and, while not giving away any real plot details, he did have a few things to say:

“It’s kind of daunting and scary — you want to try to keep it going, to match what’s come before. We’ve accomplished a lot [with the first three films] but that doesn’t mean you get anything handed to you or that you’ve got everything figured out.

“It’s not a reboot, that’s maybe the wrong word. I don’t want to say reboot because then people will think we’re doing a Spider-Man and starting from the beginning. We’re not. We’re taking the story that you’ve seen — the story we’ve told in three movies already — and we’re taking it in a new direction. But we’re leaving those three as the history. It all still counts. I met with the writer before I went off to do ‘Pain and Gain’ and we talked about a bunch of ideas. We let that simmer for a bit. He’s been thinking about stuff and now we’re getting back together next week to see what we’ve got and to see if it gels.”

What about taking the action away from Earth?

“That feels like the way to go, doesn’t it? I want to go a little off but I don’t want to gotoo sci-fi. I still want to keep it grounded.That’s what works in these movies, that’s what makes it accessible.”

Daunting? Scary? Come on, Bay. No one is asking you to make Citizen Kane 2 or One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest 2 here… Just focus on metal on metal fighting and lots of explosions and you’ll be just fine since you made a deal with the devil anyway to only have successful films.
