Remaking that S**t: UPTOWN SATURDAY NIGHT

This might actually be a film worthy of a remake because I’m guessing most of you have never even heard of it. Made in 1974, Uptown Saturday Night starred some of the biggest African American actors of the day in Sidney Poitier, Bill Cosby, and Harry Belafonte.

.

Steve Jackson and Wardell Franklin sneak out of their houses to visit Madame Zenobia’s: a high-class but illegal nightclub. During their visit, however, the place is robbed and they are forced to hand over their wallets. Steve’s wallet turns out to have contained a winning lottery ticket, and together they must recover their stolen property.

.

Now onto the remake… Warner Bros. has tapped Adam McKay (Anchorman) to direct the film and they’re reportedly going after Denzel Washington and Will Smith to star. I hate to say it, but I kind of think this is brilliant. Will Smith’s production company Overbrook Entertainment is attached to produce. No word yet on whether it will take place in modern day, or be an Anchorman style throwback to the 70′s.
