DVD/Blu-Ray Releases: July 26th, 2011
This week Brandon Routh tries to make up for ruining Superman Returns, a generic goblin goes straight-to-DVD, and a double feature featuring two great documentaries..
.
.
.
Synopsis: The adventures of supernatural private eye, Dylan Dog, who seeks out the monsters of the Louisiana bayou in his signature red shirt, black jacket, and blue jeans.
.
Bottom Line: This movie came and went from theaters so fast I honestly don’t know what to make of it. The comic book it’s based on was a big cult hit so maybe this one could be a diamond in the rough.
.

.
.
Synopsis: In 1831, on the eve of Halloween, the villagers of Hollow Glen engage in an annual festival where they toss their diseased crops into a blazing fire, in hopes of blessing them with an abundant field for the next year. But when one couple takes the ritual too far and throws their sickly, deformed child into the inferno, their murderous action results in something far more horrific than they could have imagined. Out of the ashes and smoke rises something so evil, so monstrous, that the town is forever cursed. This creature is known as THE GOBLIN…and he waits for the moments when he can seek his revenge!
.
Bottom Line: With cover art and a synopsis like that, how bad could this movie really be? Terrible you say? Alright, you’ve convinced me.

American Grindhouse/Nightmares in Red, White, and Blue: Double Feature
.
Synopsis: Two disc double feature box set includes Nightmares in Red, White & Blue, the hit horror documentary about the evolution of the American Horror Film and American Grindhouse, the SXSW hit documentary that explores the history of the American exploitation film.
.
Bottom Line: These are two documentaries that any bad movie fan can appreciate. Grindhouse is engrained in our life blood and a staple of bad movie lore and we all know how many bad horror movies have come and gone over the years but Nightmares in Red, White, and Blue is a fascinating trip through the evolution of the horror film and the country’s obsession with them. Both are absolutely fascinating.
