3 ‘Snow White’ Movies in the Works

UPDATE: According to Deadline.com, Universal is finalizing a deal to purchase Snow White and the Huntsman for $1.5 million against $3 million, making it one of the biggest spec sales of the year.  Someone please kill me.

.

That seems a tad bit unnecessary if you ask me, but then again, I am no studio head, just a movie fan who rants and raves on the internet.  Joe Roth (Alice in Wonderland) is producing Snow White and the Huntsman which is apparently making its rounds at the studios as we speak.

.

Snow White and the Huntsman features an expanded role for the Huntsman. In the fairy tale, he is ordered to take Snow White into the woods and kill her, but instead lets her go. In the new take, the Huntsman is not a love interest but acts more as a mentor, teaching Snow White to fight and survive.
.
Disney has their own retelling of the classic fairy tale in development called Snow and the Seven (how hip sounding…[sarcasm]).  And to round things out, Brett Ratner is developing Snow White which is supposed to be a more classic retelling of the Disney classic.

These all sound like utter shite if you ask me.  First, don’t let Joe Roth anywhere near this iconic tale.  We all saw how he and Tim Burton, arguably one of the greatest filmmakers of the last 30 years, did to Alice in Wonderland.  That movie wasn’t so bad it was good, it was painfully bad, like receiving an anema with a rusty, metal funnel.  Second, Disney should just close up shop as a movie studio as far as I’m concerned.  I don’t think they’ve produced anything worthwhile since Miracle.  Not to mention the movie is going to be called Snow and the Seven.  Sounds to me like Snow White is going to have a dance off with the dwarves to win their affections, or Disney is going really dark and turning this into a creepy gangbang smut film.  I vote for the latter.  Then we have Brett “I’m a hack” Ratner.  Why does this guy insist on putting his stink on everything?  Sure, Rush Hour was fun, but can you name another Ratner movie you enjoyed?  No, because there aren’t any.
.
Sadly, the fact there are three Snow White movies in development just proves that the wave of remakes is not over, and that Hollywood still refuses to embark on new ideas and instead prefers to bastardize movies we all loved growing up.  Way to go, guys.
